I had my cousin’s wedding a few weeks ago and with just two weeks to the wedding, I realized nothing in my closet would really work for the occasion. I saw this Alex Evenings navy striped dress on Nordstrom (see it here) and thought it would be perfect. It’s modest enough to be respectful of my family but still completely my style. My package was delayed because of the crazy snowstorm we had and it arrived just two days before the wedding. Yep, I guess I like living on the edge! 😉
The midi length fell at just an inch or two above my ankles which was not the look I was going for so I has it hemmed and pulled up by the shoulders to work on my petite frame. I love the outcome and have since worn it a couple more times. It’s a beautiful and classic piece that can definitely be worn for years.
Some people are lucky enough to have dresses fit perfectly right off the rack but to be honest, that isn’t the case for most people. Most people are not exactly 5’8 (the average height of models used to make clothing) and we all carry our weight differently. So my biggest advice when dress hunting is not to be afraid of a little tailoring! Obviously, there are dresses that can’t be fixed and silhouettes you’d prefer not to wear but a little tailoring can make all the difference.
